Australia-Wide Self-Defence Workshops & Tailored Group Training

MINDSET delivers practical self-defence workshops for businesses, non-profits, community organisations, education providers, volunteer services and other groups. Workshops can be tailored to your audience and delivered at suitable locations across Australia by arrangement.

Flagship Women's Self-Defence Workshops

Our flagship Women's MINDSET Self-Defence Workshops are specifically designed to empower women with practical, effective self-defence skills and the confidence to use them. These intensive workshops focus on real-world scenarios that women are most likely to encounter, providing techniques that work regardless of size, strength, or fitness level.

Each workshop covers situational awareness, boundary setting, verbal de-escalation, but the bulk of the workshops concentrate on the difficult part the physical defence techniques. We create a safe, supportive environment where women can practice realistic scenarios, build muscle memory, and develop the mental resilience needed to respond effectively under stress.

These workshops typically run for either one day and a more comprehensive workshop runs for two days, both workshops include pad work, hands-on training, scenario-based practice, and a Q&A session at the end. Perfect for individuals, groups, or organisations looking to provide comprehensive self-defence training for women.

Tailored Workshops for Organisations & Groups

Our tailored workshops are designed for businesses, non-profits, community organisations, education providers and other groups committed to participant safety and wellbeing. Training can be customised to address relevant workplace, community or group scenarios.

We work with groups of different sizes to deliver professional, engaging training that supports wellbeing, safety and practical preparedness. Our instructors adapt the format and focus to the needs of each audience.

Workshops can be delivered at suitable locations across Australia by arrangement. Tell us about your group, location and training goals, and we will discuss a suitable workshop format.

Our Training System

MINDSET Self-Defence is built on a comprehensive training system that combines elements from multiple martial arts and combat disciplines, refined specifically for real-world self-defence applications. Our approach is practical, effective, and accessible to people of all fitness levels and backgrounds.

We draw from proven systems including CQC, Krav Maga, Kung Fu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and tactical defence training used by law enforcement and military personnel. However, we've adapted these techniques specifically for civilian self-defence, focusing on what works in real-world situations rather than sport, competition scenarios or military combat.

Our training methodology emphasises simplicity, efficiency, and effectiveness. We teach techniques that can be learned quickly, retained easily, and executed under stress. Every technique is pressure-tested and refined based on real-world feedback and modern understanding of violence dynamics.

Practical Self-Defence for Real-World Situations

Many people confuse self-defence training with traditional martial arts or sport fighting. While there's overlap, the goals and approaches are fundamentally different. Understanding this distinction is crucial for effective self-defence preparation.

Traditional Martial Arts often focus on discipline, character development, and mastery of specific techniques within a structured system. They may include forms (kata), belt rankings, and techniques designed for controlled sparring or competition. While valuable for fitness, discipline, and cultural appreciation, many traditional techniques aren't optimised for modern self-defence scenarios.

Sport Fighting (like MMA, boxing, or competitive jiu-jitsu) operates within rules, weight classes, and controlled environments. Fighters who are trained to be extremely fit, skillful and technical, know when and where the fight will occur, have time to prepare, and compete against opponents of similar size and skill. There are no weapons, multiple attackers, or environmental hazards to consider.

Street Fighting/Self-Defence has no rules, no referee, and no guaranteed fair fight. Attackers may be larger, armed, or working in groups. The environment is unpredictable, and the goal isn't to win points or demonstrate technique, it's to survive and escape safely. This requires a different mindset, different techniques, and different training methods. At MINDSET, we prepare you for reality, not competition.

Common Questions

What is the difference between street fighting and martial arts?

Traditional martial arts focus on discipline, forms, and controlled sparring, while sport fighting operates within rules and weight classes. Street fighting and self-defence has no rules, no referee, and no guaranteed fair fight. Attackers may be larger, armed, or in groups. At MINDSET, we prepare you for reality, not competition.

Is self-defence training the same as learning a martial art?

No. Many traditional martial art techniques are not optimised for modern self-defence scenarios. MINDSET training draws from proven systems including CQC, Krav Maga, Kung Fu, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai, but adapts them specifically for civilian self-defence — focusing on what works in real-world situations rather than sport or competition.

What self-defence techniques does MINDSET teach?

Core modules cover the most common civilian attacks, ground defence, weapon defence, striking (where and how to strike), and avoidance, awareness, and de-escalation. Specialised workshops include rape defence, civilian security and door staff, multiple attackers, advanced CQC techniques, and tailor-suited workshops.
